About This Resource:
The Pence family data presented here represents more than four decades
of genealogical data gathering by Richard "Dick" Pence. A truly
remarkable individual, Richard is among the pioneers of
computer genealogy—those first to appreciate the power that
technological advances would bring to the genealogical field. He was a
charter member of the National Genealogical Society's Computer Interest
Group and one of the early editors of the "NGS/CIG Digest." He and a
colleague wrote the first book on the use of computers in genealogy
simply titled, Computer Genealogy. Richard was a charter inductee
into the Genealogy Technology Hall of Fame. He was an early advocate of
sharing information and knowledge in the field, and is a one-man Pence
surname expert. [from Genealogical Computing, 01 Oct 2001]
Background Note from the Compiler:
This Pence Family material should be
considered only as a guide to assist the researcher in finding his or
her Pence ancestors and in no way should it be considered as a final
genealogical record. The competent and conscientious genealogist will
use this information as the basis for further research. The dates and
places given should provide the necessary pointers. The data has been
collected from countless sources over 40 years. Included are excerpts
from original or
published records and indexes. U.S. census records have been consulted
extensively and correspondence with hundreds of other researchers
provides the basis for many connections. While I believe this
information to be quite accurate, please be reminded that it has been
impossible to verify much of it against original records. That part is
up to you. -- Richard A. Pence
