Feagans Brothers of Daviess County, Indiana

Contributed by Dawne Slater-Putt

The three men in the attached photo are, left to right:
Louis Edgar Feagans
Robert Clinton Feagans
Joseph Milton Feagans

They were brothers and the sons of Isaac Walter and Sarah J. (Davis) Feagans of Montgomery, Barr Township, Daviess County, Indiana. "Bert" (Robert) Clinton, the man in the center with what I believe is a World War I uniform, was the youngest of the three. He was born 11 October 1891, probably in Barr Township, Daviess County. His home residence was Montgomery, Indiana, 31 May 1917 when he registered for the World War I draft, although he was working as a traveling salesman for the H. J. Heinz Company of Pittsburgh, traveling out of a town in Illinois (perhaps Carthage? His draft card is somewhat hard to decipher). "Ed" (Louis Edgar) and "Joe" (Joseph Milton) Feagans also registered for the World War I draft, per the law, but perhaps they did not serve because they were older and both men were married before the war began. These three had four sisters as well. A Daviess County history says that Robert Feagans married Ethel Tait 25 February 1919, although I can't find this record in the Daviess County WPA marriage index or on Ancestry's Indiana Marriage Collection, so perhaps they were married elsewhere. The county history says that Robert and Ethel moved to California, where he died 10 May 1943 (L. Rex Myers, ed., Daviess County History, Vol. II. Paducah, Ky.: Turner Publishing Co., 1991, p. 389).
