Andrew-2, James-1) was born on September 9, 1918 in Wythe Co.,
VA. He died on June 17, 2001 in Wythe Co., VA. Thomas Wilson
Porter, 82, of Austinville, Va., died Sunday, June 17, 2001, in
the Wythe County Community Hospital, Wytheville, Va. Funeral
services will be held Wednesday, June 20, at 2 pm at the Huddle
Memorial United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jeff Callahan,
the Rev., Joe Carrico and the Rev. John Jenkins officiating.
Interment will follow in the Davis Cemetery. Ivanhoe Masonic
Lodge No. 235, AF&AM, will conduct graveside Masonic rites. The
body will be taken to the church one hour before service time.
He was born in Wythe County, VA, a son of the late Thomas Hall
Porter and Lula Hazel Taylor Porter. He was retired from the New
Jersey Zinc Company and a member of Huddle Memorial United
Methodist Church where he served as Sunday school teacher and
superintendent. He was a member of Ivanhoe Masonic Lodge No.
235, AF&AM where he served as past master, district deputy
master and current treasurer. He was preceded in death by his
first wife, Geneva Groseclose Porter; a sister Katherine
Harrington James; and three brothers, Marvin A. Porter, Howard
W. Porter, and Morris D. Porter. Survivors include his wife,
Edith Reynolds Porter of the home; one son and daughter-in-law,
Eddie and Mary Porter of Eagles Nest Road, Ivanhoe, Va; two
daughters and a son-in-law, Fay Porter of Huddles Road,
Wytheville, Va., and Paula and David Sheffey of Blue Sky Road,
Wytheville, Va; three stepchildren and their spouses, Barbara
and Mac King of Virginia Beach, Va., Linda and Buddy Shinault of
Austinville, Va., and Dreama and Steve Via of Radford, Va.; five
sisters and brothers-in-law, Dot Porter of Wytheville, Va.,
Ninna P. and Sid Smith of Richmond, Va., Betty Wade of Roanoke
(Roanoke City) VA., Marie and Walter Payne of Max Meadows, Va.
and Betty Wade of Roanoke (Roanoke City) VA., Marie and Walter
Payne of Max Meadows, VA., and Audrey P and Duane Jonas of
Wytheville, Va.; nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren,
one great-great-grandchild, six step-grandchildren, one
great-stepgrandchild, and several nieces and nephew. The family
will receive friends Tuesday, June 19, from 6-8pm. at the Reese
Funeral Home in Austinville, Va., or at the residence at any
time. Reese Funeral Home in Austinville, Va., is in charge of
the arrangements. He was buried on June 20, 2001 in Davis
Cemetery, Wythe County, VA. He was married to Genevia Georgia
GROSECLOSE (daughter of Thomas Boyd GROSECLOSE and Grace WHITE)
on May 22, 1938 in Wythe Co., VA. Genevia Georgia GROSECLOSE was
born on January 31, 1920 in Wythe Co., VA. According to the
marriage record; she would have been born in 1917. She died on
March 22, 1958. She was buried in Davis Cemetery, Rt. #646,
Cripple Creek, Wythe Co., VA. Thomas Wilson PORTER and Genevia
Georgia GROSECLOSE had the following children:
